OPPO’s Reno16 F 5G is now in South Africa at R16,999, pairing a 7,000mAh battery with a 120Hz OLED screen and 3.5x telephoto camera.
OPPO has brought the Reno16 F 5G to South Africa with a recommended price of R16,999, putting its latest Reno handset into the crowded upper-mid-range smartphone fight.
The local proposition is unusually battery-heavy. OPPO’s South African specifications list a 7,000mAh battery, 80W SuperVOOC charging, a 6.57-inch 120Hz OLED display and 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage.
The Reno16 F uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300-Energy platform. Its display runs at 2372×1080 with a maximum 120Hz refresh rate and a stated 1,400-nit high-brightness mode.
The rear camera system combines a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilisation, an 8MP ultrawide and a 50MP telephoto camera. OPPO lists 3.5x optical zoom for video, while the front camera is a 50MP unit with a 100-degree field of view. Both front and rear systems can record 4K video at 30 frames per second.
Other local specifications include Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, dual nano-SIM support and ColorOS 16. There is no eSIM support on the South African specification sheet.
OPPO also advertises IP69K water and dust resistance. As with any ingress-protection claim, that is a laboratory rating rather than permission to treat the phone as waterproof in every real-world situation.
At R16,999, the Reno16 F is not competing on battery capacity alone. Buyers in this bracket can cross-shop older flagships, current Samsung FE devices and aggressively priced Android rivals. The useful differentiators on paper are the large battery, telephoto camera and 256GB storage.
What remains untested is how the Dimensity 7300-Energy performs over sustained workloads, how the cameras behave outside controlled samples and whether the large battery translates into materially better real-world endurance. Those questions need device testing; the specification sheet cannot answer them.
